South Korea reported a record high number of critically ill Covid-19 patients for the fourth consecutive day.

A total of 1,105 patients are being treated in intensive care units across the country, according to data from the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA).

As of Friday evening local time, the ICU bed occupancy stood at 77.2%, leaving only 308 beds available, according to the health ministry.

South Korea reported 5,842 new Covid-19 cases from Friday, bringing the country’s total confirmed Covid-19 cases since the pandemic to 602,045, according to KDCA.

The national death toll also increased by 105 to 5,176.

The country has a high vaccination rate: as of Saturday, 85.6% of the population had received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, 82.4% of the population had been given a second dose, and 29.4% had received a booster shot, KDCA added.
